Too bad they couldn't have given it to all five of those talented men.Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15341231489185317489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31471786.post-62425415419831871382007-06-10T18:50:00.000-04:002007-06-10T18:50:00.000-04:00captainc- We probably won't ever agree, which is f...captainc- We probably won't ever agree, which is fine, but I'd like to say one more thing. I do agree with you, it doesn't take much intelligence to predict that "Spring Awakening" will win best musical, but I just like to predict who will win award shows for fun and really nothing more than that. I honestly have nothing against "Curtains." I would like to see it, but as I don't live in New York, I haven't gotten around to seeing everything yet. I am not doubting that "Curtains" is a good show or that David Hyde Pierce gave a good performance in it (I saw him in "Spamalot" and he was a great Sir Robin), but I just don't think either will win. I'm not stating my opinion on a show I haven't seen, I'm just guessing the outcome of the Tony's. Likewise, I don't base my opinions on what I read, just my predictions.Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15341231489185317489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31471786.post-44146313509287388652007-06-08T04:18:00.000-04:002007-06-08T04:18:00.000-04:00I am afraid that your opinions and predictions DO ...I am afraid that your opinions and predictions DO offend me. I think it is appalling that you base your opinions on "what you have been readng all season long". How much intelligence does it take to "predict" that SA, the "Emperor's New Clothes" hit of the New Millenium, will win (undeservedly, IMO). The Times set everyone up to be uncool if they didn't like SA, and that was it. Although I remember when the songs happened, I cannot recall a note of the SA score. SA also has a rotten book (read the Wedekind, please). And GG's book? A miserable Act I, followed by a verbatim ripoff of the far better documentary. But of course, you wouldn't consider Curtains' book, although you haven't seen it, because the show's not the snob favorite.

Likewise, David Hyde Pierce's magnificent performance gets no quarter from you. And my favorite sentence is: "Whether or not I've seen Curtains, these predictions wouldn't change."

Your critical capacities remind me of the statement from Willy Mays when he was asked what he thought about Jim Bouton's muckraking baseball book, "Ball Four." He responded, "I didn't like it. I didn't read it. I don't read them kind of books."

Congratulations on following in the great Mr. Mays' footsteps, Linda.CaptainChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01405910511726215762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31471786.post-21374918600320397242007-05-31T12:30:00.000-04:002007-05-31T12:30:00.000-04:00I'm sorry if I've offended you. I loved Michael Cerveris (as well as Donna Murphy and David Pittu) in it, but it doesn't change the fact that I think Raul Esparza has the best shot right now. My predictions are based on what I've been reading all season long. I am guessing who I think will win, not necessarily who I hope will win (although sometimes they are the same). Whether or not I've seen "Curtains," these predictions wouldn't change. Yes I did love "Spring Awakening," but it's also the frontrunner, regardless of my own opinion.Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15341231489185317489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31471786.post-50967769509668183032007-05-30T00:12:00.000-04:002007-05-30T00:12:00.000-04:00Could I ask why you consider yourself qualified to...Could I ask why you consider yourself qualified to make Tony predictions when you haven't seen either Curtains or Company? Your opinions are so skewed to SA and GG that I wondered why, until I realized that you had seen neither Michael Cerveris nor David Hyde-Pierce's performances. I fear that you, like so many others, seem just to want to appear cutting edge by endorsing SA and GG, which were the early-season predictions for Best Musical. Congratulations on expressing opinions about shows you don't even know.CaptainChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01405910511726215762noreply@blogger.com
