Contest: Win Tickets to A Time To Kill

Update: The contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered. The winner was picked at random from all the entries. Congratulations Amanda F!

Well, summer is unofficially over, but that means the fall Broadway season is almost here. One of the new plays this season is Rupert Holmes' adaptation of John Grisham's novel A Time To Kill, about a young lawyer defending a black man for taking the law into his hands after a horrible crime is committed against his daughter. Previews begin on September 28 at the John Golden Theatre with an official opening set for October 20. The cast includes Sebastian Arcelus, Patrick Page, Tonya Pinkins, and Tom Skerritt.

In order to win a pair of tickets to see the show, leave a comment on this post telling me which novel you would like to see adapted into a play. For an extra entry, tweet about the contest or retweet one of my tweets about it. You must be following on Twitter for the extra entry. A winner will be chosen at random from all the entries on Friday, September 6, at 5:30 p.m. Please include your e-mail address or Twitter handle in the comments so I have a way to contact you if you win. Good luck!

I always wanted to adapt Joe Keenan's Puttin' On The Ritz as a musical or semi-musical. It's about a Broadway writer trying to write special material for a vanity cabaret act. A marvelous comic novel.

Hmmm, I'd love to see any of Neil Gaiman's novels translated into play/musical form, especially his Sandman graphic novels!

@ladystardust25

P.S. Brad - Lolita was adapted for the stage, and it flopped terribly, lol.

I'd like to see this year's "The Sound of Things Falling" turned into a play.

How about Killer Angels? It was adapted as the movie Gettysburg, But if they focused on perhaps day 2, it could make for a pretty cool drama.

Otherwise I co-sign on anything by Neil Gaiman

There's a very raunchy book called The Average American Male that would make a phenomenal stage comedy with a little work!

I was going to say To Kill a Mockingbird, but turns out it's already on in London :(

I know it doesn't call out to be a play but I think Dan Savage's The Commitment could be interesting (and hey, they turned The Kid into a musical so anything can happen).

How about an adaptation of Gore Vidal's The City and the Pillar? We would obviously borrow several cast members from recent The Best Man revival. I'm looking at you, Angela.

Would be a better movie, but it would be interesting to see Stranger In A Strange Land on stage.

Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play has convinced me that science fiction can work amazingly in a theatre setting.

Oh, it's @candrus68 BTW

I've always wanted to see SEVEN KEYS TO BALDPATE turned into a musical (it would be similar to SOMETHING'S AFOOT).

Who's the lucky winner? I won't be joining the contest, I'm just here as a theatre advocate. You're too generous, you know, giving away the tickets. Are you getting them for free? Anyway, good luck to your candidates! May your best follower win! Lucius @ Skild.com
